Workshops News 2021

by mimithorisson

Dear friends,

These are strange, unusual and sometimes very unsettling times. Yet there has also been reflection, incredible kindness, courage and hope. I am hopeful we will emerge from this wiser, eventually stronger and more focused on the things that matter and willing to fight for them.
Most of us have had minor or major setbacks to our plans, whether they were plans of exciting adventures or simply plans to go to work, go to school or open the doors to our businesses every day.
During the two phases of lockdowns I have often thought about all the incredible people I have met through our workshops, mostly at our property in Médoc but also, more recently, through our travels in Italy.
The great power of togetherness and fellowship that can be created by cooking and sharing a few meals together is unlike anything I have experienced before.
Sometimes we have had two workshops, one right after the other. As we approach the end of the former, perhaps on the last night, the excitement of the final evening, the tenderness of saying goodbye – I feel a little sad and nervous we won’t be able to recreate the same feeling with the group arriving in a few days.
Yet somehow we always do. My husband, Oddur, likes to joke that it’s just all the Champagne and while a little (or a lot of) bubbly never hurts we both know that’s not it. It’s the power of like minded people, looking for and finding the thing that unites them. Cooking, approaching life through food culture in a beautiful setting, the appreciation of a slow life is a powerful unifier.

As we look ahead to an exciting 2021, full of promise and travel we are happy to announce our modified program for next year. Many of these workshops are already quite full, not least the Médoc ones – this is due mostly to people moving their dates from 2020. Additionally we have been getting a lot of new enquires which is encouraging and fills us with optimism.

This is our program for 2021 🙂

November 20-22, 2021 Venice cooking workshop, Italy

Revisiting our 2019 workshop at the time of the “Madonna della Salute” celebrations when Venice is an its most quiet end eerily beautiful. We will spend our days discovering Venetian food traditions and Venice itself. We will cook many meals together, go to the markets and buy the freshest fish and vegetables, see the Venice not everybody gets to see. We’ll go home wanting to come back.

Cost of participation is 3.800 euros including all food and wine, transportation on site and 3 night’s accommodation.

September 15-17, 2021 Médoc, France

As our Summer workshops this year could not go ahead, mainly because too many people simply couldn’t make it and also, partially, because rules and regulations, it seemed, would have made it difficult to offer the experience we intended – we decided to add this workshop in the fall as an alternative – when more people can travel and are confident about traveling.

Cost of participation is 2.500 euros including all food and wine.

September 22-24, 2021 Médoc, France

Our Fall workshops in Médoc are always among the highlights of the year, a wonderful mix of like-minded people cooking, eating and drinking, wine tastings and various outings. The days of long autumn tables filled with the richest produce and some of our favourite dishes.

Cost of participation is 2.500 euros including all food and wine.

October 7-11, 2021 The Great Italian Road Trip, Italy

This is a culinary odyssey, an adventure in food, that will take us from the South of Italy, up through the middle and end in our home region of Piemonte, where we have been based for the last couple of years, working on the Italian cookbook – Old World Italian. In many ways this journey retraces our steps in making the book and reunites us with some of our favorite contributors to the book. We’ll meet in Rome, then Napoli and work our way up to Torino.

Cost of participation is 4.500 euros, including 4 night’s accommodation, all travel costs during the trip and of course all food and wine.

Please note that all deposits are non-refundable. I find that to be a necessary step to avoid confusion and frivolous bookings. Should, however, something prevent you from attending the workshop you booked (and we certainly know from experience that this can happen) I would be very happy to find other dates that work for you in the future.

Looking forward to hearing from you all,
